Designed Through the Storm

By Destiny Sambulá, CEO of Konapop Beauty & Inventor of the Lap Vanity

When I started designing the Lap Vanity, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. But I didn’t expect everything to break down at the same time—software crashes, failed prints, delayed parts, even the tiniest hinge becoming a full-blown engineering puzzle. And yet, here we are. Still building. Still pushing. Not just for me, but for you.

Because this isn’t just a vanity. It’s a vision.

Over the past five months, I’ve poured every ounce of myself into creating something that’s never existed before: a beautiful, fully portable vanity system that folds flat, works anywhere, and is actually worth taking with you. From hospitals to hotel rooms, couches to car rides—I wanted to make something that makes people feel not just seen but beautiful, no matter where they are.

But there is no manual when it comes to designing a first-of-its-kind product.3

Off-the-shelf parts didn’t cut it. I had to create a custom hinge just to make the mirror thin enough without compromising the table’s sleek profile. When Fusion 360 (the software I use to design every piece) crashed, I couldn’t export updated files. When my 3D printer nozzle gave out, I had to order a replacement—and of course, the first one didn’t fit. But even with all that, I kept going. I had to. Because this was never about just getting something done—it was about getting it right.

The truth is, every time something broke, it forced me to design smarter. To slow down, refocus, and make decisions not based on shortcuts, but on what you deserve. I tested mirror thicknesses while the printer ran overnight. I reworked the table cutouts so the legs and mirror would sit perfectly. I stayed up late sketching ideas for a cup holder that’s adjustable yet compact enough to disappear into the table.

Every detail matters. And every setback reminded me why I started this in the first place.

You deserve something beautiful. Something functional. Something that turns heads and sparks curiosity the moment you pull it out.

The Lap Vanity was born from a deep need for freedom, beauty, and comfort—wherever you are. Handcrafted with aerospace materials and countless late nights, the Lap Vanity is truly something special. And now, the journey continues as I add the finishing touches to make it perfect.

Thank you for riding this journey with me.

We're not done yet—but the best is yet to come.
